Inspection

  • Surface must be structurally sound, dry and free of oil, grease, curing agents, dirt, dust or other foreign material that may prevent proper adhesion.
  • Surface must be porous and profiled.

Surface Preparation for A-6,000

  • Prepare surface by sanding, grinding, water and or sandblasting or bead blasting to achieve a clean, porous and uniform surface that will allow the product to soak in and bond permanently A-250 acid etching gel may all so be used to etch concrete and will require baking soda or soda ash to neutralize.
  • (Please use caution when working with acid. Read and follow all warnings and instructions on label)

Primer requirements

  1. The first coat or primer coat should be thinned with water to ensure maximum penetration into the surface.
  2. Mix two parts A with one part B and combine for 2 minutes, then add water equal to the amount of Part B and mix for 3 more minutes.
  3. Combine using an agitator, jiffy mixer or stir stick.
  4. The primer is ready to be applied by brush or roller.
  5. Coverage should be approximately 700 sq. ft. per 1.5  gallon kit.

Coverage rate for A-6,200

  • As a primer: Up to 700 sq. ft. per 1 ½ gallon kit when thinned with water. As a coating: 350 to 400 sq. ft. per gallon. Read complete instructions for more details.
  • Mixing: Mixing – Top Coat
  • In a clean and dry bucket thoroughly mix two parts A and one part B together.
  • Combine using an agitator, jiffy mixer or stir stick. Mix for at least 2 minutes or until completely combined.
  • Only prepare the amount you can use in 4 hours or less.

A-6,000 Application:

  1. Use a 1/4 inch nap mohair or shed-free roller for the main area. Begin by cutting in the edges and trim with a brush.
  2. The center may be done like you would normally paint a surface, being sure to overlap and back roll each area carefully.
  3. For best results apply at least 2 thin coats at 350 sq. ft. per 1 ½ gal kit (Allow first coat to dry before applying second coat).

Anti-Skid Additive

  • 8 oz – 16 oz of an anti-skid additive may be added per gallon. (See anti-skid specifications for more details).

Thinning

  • For use as a top/finish coat, a small amount of water may be added for ease of application.

Drying Time

  1. In normal conditions (77o Fahrenheit & 50% Humidity) to touch in 2 hours.
  2. You may re-coat in approximately 6 hours.
  3. Should not be applied to surfaces having temperatures below 55oF.
  4. Lightfoot traffic in 6 hours, normal foot traffic in 24 hours, and vehicle traffic in 96 hours.

Clean-up

  • The uncured material can be removed with soap and water.
  • Cured material can only be removed mechanically.

Mildew

  • DO NOT PAINT OVER MILDEW.
  • Mildew is a fungus, brown, black, grey or even white in color, and will rapidly grow through any coating applied over it.
  • A solution of 50% household bleach and 50% water will kill the mildew.
  • See precautions on bleach label for handling before using.

Metal

  • Sandblast cleaning is the most reliable method of preparing metal surfaces.
  • Acid cleaning, hand scrapping or other means must be substituted. Galvanized steel, aluminum, and copper must be free of protective oils and other surface contaminants.
  • The first coat should be applied as a “wet” thin film for maximum adhesion.

Inspection

  1. Surface must be structurally sound, dry, and free of oil, grease, curing agents, dirt, dust or other foreign matter. Surface must be roughed up or porous.
  2. This product is designed for use over untreated concrete surfaces free from wax, dusting preventive sealers, deep penetrating sealers, bond breaking compounds and release agents and other similar chemicals that will interfere with proper adhesion and lead to premature coating failures.

Surface Preparation for Water Based Epoxy

  1. Prepare surface by sanding, grinding, dry or wet sandblasting or shot blasting to achieve a clean, porous and uniform surface that will allow the product to penetrate the surface.
  2. Bead or shot blasting is the most reliable method of preparation.
  3. Clean surface entirely with TSP and rinse completely with water several times. Concrete surface can be acid etched and then must be neutralized and rinsed. Acid etching does not clean the surface.

Priming Requirements:

  • Blend approximately 1/2 gallon of water with 1 gallon of A-6200 part (A).
  • Then add 1 quart of part (B) to the part A mix together for two minutes and apply as thin as possible, approximately 600-800 sq. ft. per batch.

Mixing Water Based Epoxy:

  • Top Coat: In a clean and dry bucket, mix 4 parts A and 1 part B together using an agitator, jiffy mixer or stir stick. Mix slowly for at least 2 minutes or until completely combined.
  • Prepare only the amount you can use in 90 minutes in quantities of no more than 1.25 gallons at a time. Do not leave the mixed epoxy in the bucket longer than 45 minutes. Pot life is approximately 90 minutes.

Application:

  1. For best results on horizontal surfaces, pour the entire mixture evenly onto the surface as soon as possible after mixing.
  2. Use a 3/8″ nap roller or squeegee to spread mixture over the surface, back rolling the area to be coated.
  3. For best results apply at least 2 coats at 250 sq. ft. per gallon.
  4. Clean tools with soap and water before curing begins.
  5. To increase skid resistance, stir in an approved non-skid additive into your A & B mixture.

Concrete Surface Preparation:

  1. Concrete surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of disintegrating chalky material or previously applied coatings to ensure satisfactory results. To increase adhesion, dense or machine troweled concrete surfaces should be prepared mechanically as described in surface preparation or etched with A-250 Acid etching gel.
  2. The surface profile should resemble 80 grit sandpaper to be suitable for coating. Neutralize the surface by applying a mixture of 1 lb. baking soda mixed into 1 gal of water and rinse thoroughly.
  3. Clean all surfaces with T.S.P. and rinse with clean water

Coverage For Water Based Epoxy:

  • Three (3) mil dry film at 250 sq. ft. per gallon. Six (6) mil dry film at 125 sq ft per gallon.

Thinning

  • When using this product as a top coat, thin part A slightly with water if necessary.
  • To thin add up to 1 quart of water to part “A”, blending slowly and then add part “B” to part “A” or part “A” “water thinned” mixture and blend slowly and thoroughly.
  • (Adding water to part “A” will lower the solids and may reduce the gloss slightly).

Drying Time/Cure Times

  • Under normal Conditions (70oF & 50% Humidity) dries to touch in 2-4 hours.
  • May be recoated when dry to the touch.
  • Do not apply to surfaces when ambient or surface temperatures are below 50oF.
  • Higher temperatures and lower humidity will accelerate cure times and reduce working time.

Application in extremely hot weather:

  1. Dampen the floor surface to be coated. (Do not saturate)
  2. In a large bucket, mix and prepare no more than a 1.25 gallon kit at the time.
  3. Pour entire mixture evenly onto the horizontal surface to be coated.
  4. To enhance workability, add 1-quart water to part “A”, blending slowly. Then add part “B”. Follow mixing directions. (Adding water to part “A” will lower the solids and may reduce the gloss slightly.)

Clean-up:

  • Soap and water. (Before curing begins)

CAUTION:

  • WARNING! SLIP AND FALL PRECAUTIONS
  • As these products reduce surface porosity, floor slipperiness is a potential hazard. CAUTION! COMBUSTIBLE! KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN, wear protective clothes, gloves, and goggles when mixing or applying this product.
