Limitations

  • Americrete’s Flex Mesh System must be installed on structurally sound concrete only.
  • Americrete does not guarantee that the cracks will not appear at a later date.
  • It’s imperative that the deck that is to be repaired be structurally sound.
  • Deteriorated, cracked or spalled concrete should be repaired.
  • Americrete recommends that all structural concrete substrates be tested for structural integrity, moisture content, and chemical contamination prior to application of any surfacing materials.

Surface Cleaning

  1. If the surface is oily or greasy then clean the floor with A-100 Degreaser to remove dirt, grease, and oil from the surface.
  2. Apply with a stiff broom and agitate on concrete.
  3. Let sit for 30 minutes then rinse with water.
  4. Follow directions on the label.
  5. Small grease areas can be cleaned with rags dampened with acetone, flipping rags over often.

Surface Preparation

  • Remove all existing coatings, sealers, curing agents and other foreign materials by shot blast or grinding equipment in order to reveal porous concrete. Concrete must be porous.
  • Hard trowel surfaces can be treated with A-250 Acid Etching Gel to “open up” the surface and create an applicable substrate.
  • Another optional method for surface prep would be to use the A-6000 2-component water based epoxy with XE263 Skidtex broadcast to refusal, to provide a good profile for the A-16000 system to adhere to.
  • All loose flaking or suspect coating must still be removed first.

Crack Repair

  • Follow Americrete’s A-17,000 Crack Repair Specification.
  • Americrete A-7300 2-Component Epoxy Crack Repair Paste is also an excellent product for repairing hairline size cracks.
  • Follow A-7300 specification recommendations.

Drains & Scuppers

  • Galvanized Thunderbird drains (2”) are recommended. They must be nailed and caulking must be placed under and around the drains.
  • Galvanized scuppers 2” x 3” or better, no more than 6 feet apart from each other.

Sloping

  • The design of the deck should already have a 1/2″ per foot slope away from the building, this is code.
  • If your deck is not properly sloped, please call Americrete for further assistance.
  • This section is to provide information for the development of crickets and diverters.

Flex Mesh Waterproofing System over Concrete Substrate’s

  1.  Follow flashing and crack repair procedures for flex mesh system
  2. Mix 1 pint AW-8000 bonder, 4-6 quarts of water, to one bag of Concrete Resurfacer A-600 and apply to all seams and flashing edges with 3-inch wide A-1620 Mesh Seam Tape embedded into the wet A-600 Concrete Resurfacer and trowel smooth feathering out the edges. Allow drying.
  3. Roll A-8100 Bonder on a surface at a rate of 200 to 300 square feet per gallon. Apply next step directly into the wet bonder.
  4. Using a strong drill with egg beater type mixer, mix 4-6 quarts of water and 1 quart of AW-8000 Bonder to 1 bag of A-900 Waterproofing Base Coat, and trowel or squeegee over the entire surface.
  5. APPLY INTO WET bonder at a coverage rate of 150 to 200 square ft. per batch. Allow drying 4-6 hours at 70 F ° and 50 % humidity.
  6. Apply A-1625 mesh or 1630 adhesive mesh (38” x 150’) over the entire deck, overlapping the seams 1″- 2″ inches. Use a 1/2″ nap roller to laminate down the Mesh with AW-8000 Bonder.
  7. Use a sharp razor knife to cut an X into any bubbles or blisters in the fabric while it is still wet.
  8. The coverage rate is 150 to 200 square feet per gallon.
  9. Allow drying 4-8 hours before proceeding to the next step.
  10. The AW-8000 will be tacky so make sure your shoes are not dirty with grit before going to next step.
  11. Mix 1 gallon of water and 1 quart of AW-8000 Bonder to one bag of A-900 Waterproofing Base Coat and apply over the entire deck with a trowel or squeegee at a rate of 125- 150 sq. ft. per bag. Allow drying 8 to 12 hours before proceeding to the next step.
  12. Cold weather may increase the drying time. If a decorative texture is not necessary, the colored top coat can be applied on this A- 900 Base Coat, after 24 hours, skip to next step.
  13. Next, for a textured finish, mix 4 to 5 quarts of water to 1  bag of A-800 Texture Finish. It should be about the consistency of a pancake batter.
  14. Put the material into a Hopper Gun. Apply the material to the deck with low-pressure and let it “set up”. When the A-800 has slightly lost its shine that’s the time to start “knocking Down” the touch. Do not allow the material to dry.
  15. Use golf shoes or spikes to walk on the surface to prevent footprints in texture. Use a wet rag to clean trowel after every 4th or 5th swipe of the trowel. Allow drying for 24 hours.
  16. Apply 2 coats of A-1100 Color Seal or A-1150 Heat Reflective Color Seal with a roller at a rate of 250 square feet per gallon and allow to dry 4 to 6 hours at 72 degrees and 50% humidity between coats.
